Jubilee 98, Jubilee 99 and Rubel Shelly from Woodmont Hills in Faith Matters seems to agree that musical worship teams have the right to rule over or oversee the flock in preaching with a tune. However, we should note that after Israel was destroyed at the wine, women prophesiers and music festivals, the people hungered and thirsted for the Word of God. They traveled from sea to sea trying to find it but could not. The warning of Amos is centered primarily on the cows of Bashan who were the slick, well fed, Hathor-like foreign goddesses of Israel. The sin of the men was the result of the demands of their wives who wanted more of those full wine skins. To bad that the poor and Biblically impoverished had to be abraded to death (N.T. Melody) and have their "vines pruned" or their "inheritance taken" (O.T. Melody or polluting with instruments). See Faith Matters.

Israel imitated the musical practice of David but on a daily, religious basis. After all, both wine and music are destructive, addictive drugs. We will note later that David changed the law of worship to add instrumental music. Even so, he used it for the civil-state rituals for stated animal sacrifices and as a signal for the beginning and ending of the sacrificial service. He did not use it for congregational worship. For instance, many of the instruments David used for his private prayers (muttering against God at times) were never allowed in the Temple because of their sensuous or effeminate nature.

Israel, however, made music a part of their daily religious festivals and therefore violated Numbers 10:7 which recognized that you cannot learn with your mouth open and your blood stream crawling with endorphins or morphine-like drugs produced by loud preaching and music whether vocal or instrumental.

While the music was playing, the hoof-beat of the Assyrians could not be heard. Israel would go to the land of the Chaldeans--the land of soothsayers with their "clanging brass." At the same time, Judah was learning nothing even though they had been preserved as a "restoration movement" or a tiny remnant which God demanded not be mixed with the crowds "outside the walls."

Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. Je 13:9

This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods (for the hour), to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle (manacle, fetter), which is good for nothing. Je 13:10

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear. Je 13:11

Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Every bottle (wineskin) shall be filled with wine (exhilarating worship-drunk without wine): and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? Je 13:12

The "bottle" is a wine skin. It has the same meaning as the familiar spirit (h178) of the witch of Endor or the soothsayer or the harp player. The witch whispered and muttered into it to get a wineskin message from the dead gods. However, the wineskin worked only because it was already empty:

Nebel (h5035) neh'-bel; a skin- bag for liquids (from collapsing when empty); hence a vase (as similar in shape when full); also a lyre (as having a body of like form): - bottle, pitcher, psaltery, vessel, viol

The women who publicly played the "familiar spirit" or the magical musical instrument were, by definition, persons of loose morals:

Nabal (h5034) naw-bale'; to wilt, to fall away, fail, faint; fig. to be foolish or morally wicked; causat. to despise, disgrace: - disgrace, dishonour, lightly esteem, do foolishly, come to nought

WOE to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine Isa 28:1

Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. Je 13:13

They were copying their clergy from the Canaanites and Babylonians. This worship team was made up of priest, soothsayer and musician.

The kings for the hour and the queens (the false women prophesiers) still had a little time but not much:

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lords flock is carried away captive. Je 13:17

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory. Je 13:18

Rejecting the Word Brought False Prophets Flocking Around

God knew that when men as unfaithful "women and children" rule over the people there will be a focus upon wine women and song. This was because Israel tore down the walls and used Canaanite descendants to run the musical worship teams. These teams, in turn, were the true overseers of the flock. Ezekiel takes up the same lament:

And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day. Eze 2:3

For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them;

and thou shalt say unto them,

Thus saith the Lord God. Eze 2:4

And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. Eze 2:5

And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. Eze 2:6

The word of the LORD came to me: Ezek 13:1

"Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: 'Hear the word of the LORD! Ezek 13:2

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit ("Old Wive's Tales or self-composed songs or incantations with instruments) and have seen nothing! Ezek 13:3 (This was speaking out of their own spirit into the air 1Cor 14:9)

My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD. Ezek 13:9

Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter: Eze 13:10

Taphel (h8602) taw-fale'; from an unused root mean. to smear; plaster (as gummy) or slime; (fig.) frivolity: - foolish things, unsavoury, untempered.

Jesus understood these children:

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, Mt 11:16

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. Mt11:17

False Prophets In Israel - Women Ruling Over

Now, here is the punch-line: Many of the false prophets or "prophesiers with instruments" were women standing over or presiding over the men who were seduced down from the watchtowers. Much of the problem was with foreign or perverted women who used the "effeminate art of music" as "honey" to make their false, self-invented or stolen prophesies "go down." This is why God called Israel adulterers. As music and women worship teams "break down the walls" among the people, they can be identified as those who break down the walls between the church and denominations. This they do as they continue to judgmentally declare: "I'm ok, you're ok." This is just the opposite side of the coin which declares that "No one is ok but me." A Christian is not capable of making either decision and does not need too:

"'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind (spirit), and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. Ezek 13:13

Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; Eze 13:15

To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord God. Eze 13:16

We noted in another article that those who ask you for religious festivals with the women of Moab with music want to "trim your vines to take your inheritance." Most ecumenical movements are fed by the urge to soften up the other batch until we get you into our fold and indoctrinate you.

The women prophesiers, as in Corinth, would take off their regular veils and make new ones to tempt the watching men. The style, makeup, gesture, wink, nod and smile was calculated to be a net to capture the souls of the ignorant:

"Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy (speak or sing) out of their own imagination. Prophesy against them Ezek 13:17

and say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? Ezek 13:18

And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies? Eze 13:19

Pollute (h2490) is used interchangeably with play (h5059) which means to play a musical instrument. Of course, the motive and purposes count:

Hebrew Dictionary linked to Strong Numbers Chalal (h2490) an instroctor/ of distance/space, start, commence; to redeem, to desecrate, make void, to create a cavity, vacuum, hollow, an empty space; a hollow/vacuum as a means to trap or bring together, nature; a vault, to make hollow: to wound, pierce, define, violate, make vulgar, wounded, slain, dead, the action of resisting: to break, disregard; violating instruction, to arrange/ an order of instruction; to assign, to pipe, play pipes

However, God always wants to know:

Should it be said, O house of Jacob: "Is the Spirit of the LORD angry? Does he do such things?" "Do not my words do good to him whose ways are upright? Mi 2:7

Lately my people have risen up like an enemy. You strip off the rich robe from those who pass by without a care, like men returning from battle. Mi 2:8

If a liar and deceiver comes and says, 'I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer' he would be just the prophet for this people! Mi 2:11

This wine merchant prophesies in a different way:

The musical prophesiers were usually women or very effeminate men. There was a focus upon dress and style. Just the right colors and just the right length. And the choral robes of women and dress-alike men were like little bags: they intended to break you down (external melody) with music and capture your soul and take it away captive!

This is just one of dozens of examples informing Paul who was not ignorant of what saith the Law about women prophesiers (musicians). Later, God also informs Paul and the not-ignorant people why He didn't want sex-appeal all mixed up with His Word which came in the "whisper of a voiced silence." Charismatic, out of control preachers should take note when they fill the house on Sunday and the audience returns Sunday night "disguised as empty pews."

God Told Ezekiel that Israel Would Treat Him like an Entertaining, Musical Prostitute

When God's change agent, Ezekiel, tried to speak God's Word he was warned that the people had been blinded and seduced by "wine, women and song" where "worship" meant sex with the temple prostitutes plying their trade and their music. Like Sodom, they were not particular about confusion over gender which needed ancient, pagan coming of age rituals to certify their masculinity.

Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. Eze 33:30

My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion (Lord, Lord as amorousness - inordinate love), but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain (commerce or trade or books or attendance). Eze 33:31

Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs (minstrel as a prostitute) with a beautiful voice and plays (make melody on) an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice. Eze 33:32

When all this comes true--and it surely will--then they will know that a prophet has been among them." Eze 33:33

Of the women who went in procession around Jerusalem the word Chalal (2490) meaning "to play the flute, pollute or rostitute" is used interchangeably with Naga (h5059).

Nagaph (h5062) naw-gaf'; a prim. root; to push, gore, defeat, stub (the toe), inflict (a disease): - beat, dash, hurt, plague, slay, smite (down), strike, stumble, * surely, put to the worse.

Gath was the place where they TREADED OUT THE WINEPRESS:

Gath (h1660) gath; prob. from 5059 (in the sense of treading out grapes); a wine-press (or vat for holding the grapes in pressing them): - (wine-) press (fat).

The Hebrew word for play comes from the word Gath. And Gath was noted as the place where the naked men and women spent their wrath treading out the new wine for the new wineskins. The women--real men didn't get involved--played both the harps and the prostitute.

This is why Paul commanded that unveiled women prophesiers not get involved in the short assembly of the church which was "doing more harm than good" (1Cor 11:17). Even outside the assembly the women must not get involved with uncovered prophesying (11:5) because this would be "singing and playing instruments" and not being under subjection which meant "I am available."
