New Wineskins: Galatians Authorizes Instrumental Music by Jay Guin

On God's Salvation, Galatians, and the Instrument

6.11.11 While making a profession out of the length of "hell" is seems obvious that the 'patternism' is repeated throughout the Bible and the "progressive churches" speaks of a way to CONSUME the spirits of people by substituting the songs and sermons of Christ with rhetoric, singinging and playing instruments Christ called hypocrites.  The purpose of all sacrificial musicians--called parasites in Greek--was to make the lambs dumb before the slaughter. The heretic (sectarian) is defined as the sacrificial priest who lifted up the lambs to cut their throats. Then, the musicans made noise during the "burnt offering" of goats and infants.

The Fire That Consumes The Fire starter or Musical Minister(ess) for Apollo, Abaddon, Apollyon: "Hell" was just outside of Jerusalem: maybe coming to a church near you.

Mark 9 the Worm that Dieth Not. What if it turns out that this identifies the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites or maggots who live off those already spiritually dead because of being shut out of the kingdom by all of the performing arts intending to make the lambs dumb before the slaughter. Believe it: all sacrificial musicians were callled "parasites" and the heretic was the priest who "lifted them up to cut their throats" made dumb before the slaughter.

Robert Ballad The Case for Instrumental Music.
Robert Ballard: This book refers to theover 180 places in the Bible where instrumental music is used to praise God.
Nevertheless, there is not a single instance of the church--beginning in the wilderness as the Qahal or synagogue--every assemblying to sing with instrumental accompaniment. From the Jews and the Marzeah (Amos) onward including the Agapae, people engaged in many "religious practices." The cult or feast of the dead or the feast of Martyrs usually engaged great outbursts of wailing, eating and playing instruments. These "Funeral" activities infiltrated the assembly and adopted in modern rituals.
Malachi 3 defines music as marks of Sorcerers when Messiah came.
Malachi 4 defines the "baptism" of Spirit (Wind) and Fire for this Viper Race.

5.02.11 See Danny Dodd and Royce Ogle on Legalism

John T. Willis 2. "Sing" is vocal; "make melody" is instrumental. Psalms 33:2-3; 144:9; 149:1, 3 make this crystal clear. Amos 5:23 further verifies this reality.  People forget that God turned Israel over to worship the starry host because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai. The Levites were under the KING and the COMMANDERS of the army: they made war and not worship. We will examine these passages in context.

NEW WINE SKINS: JAY GUIN'S SUMMARY OF RICK ATCHLEY AND CHRIS SEIDMAN: "How to boil a frog."

2.20.11
Jay Guin is a good lawyer: he has come up with a new foundational authority for instrumental music.  However, his premise that God commanded the king, kingdom, temple, animal sacrifices and the associated instrumental noise is wrong: there is no historic scholarship among the church fathers that God commanded that which was the result of "firing" God and demanding a human king.

Jay Guin: The instrumental debate in the Restoration Movement goes back to Civil War times, meaning that we’ve had 150 years to refine and sharpen our arguments. Both sides have gotten pretty good at making them — and at ignoring what the other side says.

It is true that most protestant groups began to impose instruments prior to the Civil war.   A free black Methodist minister found that a divided and broke church could raise money by having a musical performance. That worked so well that he added instruments.  However, none of the groups which flowed rapidly into the Campbell movement used instruments: all were divided when instruments as money making machines were added.  What became the Church of Christ was never "joined" to what became the Disciples of Christ: they had nothing in common especially with Barton W. Stone which rejected the name, baptism and the atonement.

It’s often been said, by both sides, that the dispute is ultimately all about hermeneutics, and indeed , it is. But the fork in the road is not where we normally say. It’s not really about what the early Christian bishops wrote, nor about the meaning of psallō, nor about how to read the silences of the scriptures. Not really. Of course, those arguments matter and need to be addressed, but they aren’t the core of the disagreement.

The psallo word was outed for the first time in 1878 but the Disciple's authority denied that it was a musical word. Nevertheless, ALL of the sowing of discord is based heavily on the meaning of PSALLO.  Because it never worked, thee latest authority is that of the Sacrificial System where they burned goats which began with the Scape Goat (Azazel, the Devil) which probably moderated the Levites history of burning infants to Molech: that began in Egypt and consumed Israel in the Wilderness.

It’s really about who God is and his eternal plan for his people. Did God send Jesus to save us to worship a cappella? Or did he have entirely different purposes in mind? That’s the question.

JESUS DIED TO FREE US FROM THE CEREMONIAL LEGALISM OF RELIGIOUS RITUAL.

From the Church of Christ in the Wilderness Christ's Disciples attended Qahal, synagogue or Church in the wilderness
It was INCLUSIVE of REST, Reading and Rehearshing the Word of God: that which disciples do.
It was EXCLUSIVE of vocal or instrumental rejoicing: that which reverent Disciples WILL never want to do.
By, Destroying the Jew's Covenant with Death He removed the Scribes and Hypocrites whom He called hypocrites: in Ezekiel 33 He names performance preachers, singers and instrument players always known as parasites.

By giving us HIS Spirit through His Word any reader will be able to withstand those always known as witches or sorcerers.

No, God the Father made Jesus of Nazareth to be both Lord and Christ: He would be the visible and audible Word of God transferred by the Father through His Spirit or BREATH.  Jesus did not speak on His own but spoke what He heard. That is the identifier of a faithful SON.  Jesus came to remove the laded burdens and burden laders.

A Burden in both Hebrew and Greek is a song which repeats over:  If from God it is a judgmental statement: if from men it intends to "create spiritual anxiety through religious ritual." This in turn takes you captive to the music man.
Matt. 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said,
I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth,

Jay Guin Celebrates wise men who have forced people to meet in the presence of SOPHHISTS and mocks those who refuse with the same stigmata of those who REFUSE to be forced to be circumcised.  History knows that loud group music BINDS people to the tribal leader: not to family or to God.

JESUS SAID THAT THE FATHER HIDES FROM WHAT CHRIST IDENTIFIED AS HYPOCRITES IN EZEKIEL 33: SPEAKERS, SINGERS AND INSTRUMENT PLAYERS.

THAT IS WHY WE SHOULD NOT TOLERATE ANY LEGALIST IMPOSING CIRCUMCISION AS A CONDITION OF FELLOWSHIP.

THOSE WHO IMPOSE INSTRUMENTS MAKE WORSHIP WITH THEM A TEST FELLOWSHIP.

IT IS TRUE: GOD HIDES HIMSELF FROM THE WISE LUSTING FOR MUSICAL PERFORMANCE.

The Law of Moses (which did not include sacrificial instrumental sounds) was given for the CIVIL regulation of the Civil-Military-Priestly complex who were ALWAY attached to the King and kingdom in all nations: the people did not worship in this system.

Christ, the ROCK, ordained the Qahal, synagogue or Church of Christ in the wilderness for the GODLY people.

Every seven years, that is in the year of release, during the feast of Tabernacles,
the Law was to be read before all the people according to the command found in Deut., xxxi, 10.

But this enactment was probably soon found to be impracticable;
and thus the Jewish authorities arranged to read on every sabbath,
commencing with the sabbath after the feast of Tabernacles in one year of release
and ending with the feast of Tabernacles in the next year of release,
a portion of the Law so calculated that the whole Pentateuch would be read through in seven years.

This would in some way the commandment be fulfilled. Some time later,
the Jews of Palestine lengthened the sections for each sabbath
in such a manner that he entire Law could be read in three years (Talm. Babyl. Megillah, 29b).

Well, since a cappella was invented by the castrated opry singers in France imported to perform in the Sistine Chapel where instruments were not allowed, I doubt that Jesus had a cappella or any form of music in mind since sacrificial instruments made exorcism noise never called music. etal appeal to the sacrificial music as "the worship of the starry host" to which God abandoned Israel because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai. However, none of the Bible is metrical by Godly design because it was intended to be PREACHED by READING and discussing it.

DICKINSON "While the Greek and Roman songs were metrical,

the Christian psalms were anitphons, prayers, responses, etc., were unmetrical;and while the pagan melodies were always sung to an instrumental accompaniment, the church chant was exclusively vocal" (Edward Dickinson, History of Music, p. 54)

"The chant of ancient Hebrews was rhythmical, but probably free of fixed meter. Perhaps the only exceptions were the dancing songs of women, usually accompanied by percussion instruments." (Interpreters Dictionary of the Bible, p. 466).

"While the Greek and Roman songs were metrical, the Christian psalms were anitphons, prayers, responses, etc., were unmetrical; and while the pagan melodies were always sung to an instrumental accompaniment, the church chant was exclusively vocal" (Edward Dickinson, History of Music, p. 54).

"All the music employed in their early services was vocal, and the rhythmic element and all gesticulation were forbidden" (Frank L. Humphreys, The Evolution of Church Music, p. 42).

"One of the developments in which Beza was of great assistance was in Reformed psalmody. Zwingli had opposed music in public worship and it was a century or so after his death before the Reformed Churches in which his influence was strong departed from that precedent. Calvin did not go as far as Zwingli, but confined the use of music to congregational singing in unison of metrical versions of the Psalms and Canticles." (Kenneth Latourette, p. 760).

God in Christ made an absolute MARK that if you impose MUSIC in His Bible Class you are FORCED to ignore the written Words of the Living Word.

THE MARK OF SCRIBES, PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES

Jesus died to remove us from the laded burden imposed by the Scribes and Pharisees as hypocrites which Christ in Ezekiel 33 identifies as entertaining preachers, singers and instrument players.

Burdens in Hebrew and Greek are forms of songs which tent to repeat over and over as vain repitition which is called witchcraft or sorcery because it causes spiritual anxiety which destroys the REST.

And it’s the most important question in the entire debate. You see, once we decide that God is the sort of God who might damn over a piano, we begin to worry about whether he might also damn over how we use the church treasury, whether women wear hats to church, or whether elders are re-affirmed. Once you envision a God who damns over such things, there’s really no end to the rules that your God might damn you over.

WITCHCRAFT OR SORCERY DAMNS BECAUSE IT INTENDS TO DISABLE THE RATIONAL OR SPIRITUAL MIND.

Scripture pronoucnes WOES on Israel both in Isaiah and Amos because they conducted musical rituals in their temples.

But, none of these have to do with the Ekklesia or Synagogue which Christ (the Rock) defined inclusively and exclusively. One who is a faithful Disciple of Christ will not engage in a legalistiic dispute with the Master Teacher.

Jay Guin: For any student of Restoration Movement history, the fruit of our teaching is seen in our countless divisions. Of course, we aren’t alone. The Baptists and many other denominations are severely divided as well. But that hardly excuses our behavior. Rather, it just tells us that we aren’t alone in our failure to understand who God really is.

What is known as The Church of Christ never changed its position since the time of Jesus. The Catholic church never thought about "congregational singing with instrumental accompaniment." In the first place they grasped that none of the Bible is metrical and cannot be sung. The Bible wlas read--as commanded--and discussed: there were no ACTS of worship which people do trying to appease a God they do not belong to.

When rich patrons added instruments--you don't say no to a king--they were used by the monks and professionals to play around and that is how harmony was discovered. Later, the organ was never a part of the Mass but were signals for the processional, intermissions and recessionals.

There was no congregational "singing" as in tunefulness until after the Reformation. The Psalms (only) had to be radically rewritten before they could be sung in unison.  Only slowly were parts added.

The Campbells never participated in a church with instruments as did not the Baptists and others. They refused to conform when the Disciples added organs to their churches.

The Churches of Christ insisted that they were not Disciples in the 1906 first census of churches. No division. Those disciples who introduced organs into their congregations forced literate disciples to leave but they did not "start" the church of Christ.

Jay Guin: (Imagine that a father tells his son to cut the grass. The son agonizes over whether the instructions should be interpreted to permit him to listen to his iPod while he works — or does the father’s silence imply a prohibition?

IMAGINE that Jesus Christ issued a direct Command:
Matt. 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Matt. 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matt. 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
And  Jay DENIES that Jesus has all authority until the end of the age.  He says, instead of having a school of the Words of Christ so we can TEACH disciples to OBSERVE what He commanded, we WILL NOT do that: we hear voices in silence which says that WE will not go into the field and work. We will NOT go to the Bible School. We will not OBSERVE what Jesus commanded. WE will observe what He has NOT commanded because "He hath not said 'thou shalt not sing, clap and play' and be unruly in school.  God in Christ GIVES Jay the power to do that.  In fact, Jesus will HELP him by sending him strong delusions which was the Purpose Driving all charismatic paganism.

Jay Guin: He fights with his sisters over the correct interpretation and even divides the family, because he loves the father too much to tolerate the presence of those who disagree. He soon begins to wonder whether “grass” includes weeds. He agonizes so much he never cuts the grass — but he presents his father with an excellent grammatical analysis of the command.)

ONLY THOSE WHO IMPOSED INSTRUMENTS INTO CONGREGATIONS FIT THIS PATTERNISM

The Christian Churches sected out of the Disciples finally in 1971 for the same reason churches of Christ never belonged to that denomination.  Churches of Christ kept on NOT using machines for worship which they had NOT done from the time of Christ.

ONLY THE INSTRUMENTALISTS NEED THE LAW OF SILENCE

H. Leo Boles proving that the Christian Church invented the Law of Silence.

"Areas of silence," "liberty of opinion," and "the realm of expediency" are trite phrases used by leaders in the "Christian Church" and have been coined and put on a par with the teachings of the New Testament. It is just another way of saying that the opinions of men may guide the people of God, and that some of the people of God should submit to the opinions of men. There was unity with God's people so long as they respected the slogan, "Where the scriptures speak, we speak; and where the scriptures are silent, we are silent"; but when brethren began to claim the authority to speak where the New Testament is silent, and impose their opinions upon other brethren, division and separation were the inevitable results.
W.R. Walker, in Christian Standard, May 27, 1939, said: "There are two areas in our religious living in which the authority of Christ must be recognized. The first embraces all his teaching and that of his inspired followers, the `vocal area' ; but there is another area, the `area of silence."' He further said:
"I am persuaded that Christ has authority in the `areas of silence.'
Christ, by his silence, in every situation concerning which
he has left no direct teaching,

has bestowed on me this authority to act for myself."
Here are the two standards or rules recognized by many in the "Christian Church," namely, that of "walking by faith," and that of "walking by opinion." W.R. Walker calls the opinions of man in the "areas of silence" "the authority of Christ." This is tantamount to saying that man's opinions in the "areas of silence" are of equal force with the word of God.

I join issue with him on this point. There can be no unity in the "area of silence," as there can be no unity on opinions when each man claims the authority to do what is right in his own eyes. This would violate every scripture that God has given instructing his people to be "of the same mind, the same judgment of one accord."

Luke 6:42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother,
Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye,
when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye,
and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

Galatians

Jay Guin: The Bible is filled with texts that speak to this issue, but I thought I’d point out a series of passages that are rarely discussed in this context. We begin in Galatians 2 —
(Galatians 2:3-5 ESV) 3 But even Titus, who was with me, was not forced to be circumcised, though he was a Greek. 4 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in — who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery — 5 to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.

Imposing instruments into a peaceable church is always built upon the foundation of the Monarchy which God granted because He had already abandoned them to worship the starry host because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.

The burnt offering of the goats to Israel is the foundation upon which the claim is made that God commanded US to make the musical noise.  However, Christ in the prophets says that God had not commanded instruments.

Nevertheless instruments are imposed because it is assumed (falsely) that the Law of Moses commanded instruments.

Therefore, those who impose instruments are guilt of the above proof text.  Those who have never in recorded history of the church used instruments refuse to submit to the instrumental sectarians.

ALL FORMS OF MUSIC STIR UP THE PASSIONS AND PRIDE.

Rick Atchley: You walk into our youth center Sunday morning or Wednesday night: and I'm telling you; Christian rock an' roll is just blasting" (p. 9).

Paul begins by describing his visit with the apostles, and points out that Titus, a Greek, was not required to be circumcised. However, there were members of the Jerusalem congregation who insisted that Titus be circumcised, but Paul did not yield “even for a moment.” Why? To “preserve” the gospel for the Gentiles.

The synagogue was the ONLY place the civillians assembled and the only worship word was "to give heed to the Word." No one had to be circumcized to attend the synagogue. Paul in romans 14 implicated some pretty bad sects: he said you can attend but not to doubtful disputationss. No one asks whether you are circumcised before you can enter a Church of Christ: no one is asked whether they believe in instruments or not. However, where people impose musical instruments they automatically EXCLUDE those who have a rudimentary knowledge of the Bible and reverence and Godly fear.

Jay Guin:  Now this decision by Paul proved very fateful. He was hounded by the circumcision party throughout his missionary journeys, and the churches he founded were torn apart by those who argued the necessity of circumcision. It would have been much easier just to submit to their scruples and have Titus and other Gentile converts circumcised. It would have kept peace in the church. In a sense, it would have produced unity. It would have ended the controversy!

The new believers had two backgrounds to prove that there was only RARE impulses to sing their own songs or play instruments.
First, both Jews and Gentiles were wise enough not to attend the pagan, musical and sexual assemblies. They went to synagogue to hear the Word PREACHED by being READ.

Second, they both knew that music was only something the childish or perverted engaged in in the name of their gods.
But Paul refused to submit “even for a moment.” Why? Well, for two reasons. First, if Gentiles had to be circumcised to be saved, conversion of Gentiles would have been harder. Paul wasn’t willing to slow his mission — seeking and saving the lost — for peace.

We looked at this above:

Circumcision was commanded under the Patriarchal and Mosaic dispensation but it was not related to the Spirit.

Vocal and Instrumental rejoicing was OUTLAWED when God turned the Civil-Military-Priestly complex over to worship the starry host: that's who they worshipped. You cannot even hallucinate making instrumental noise when Jesus comes to be our ONLY teacher when the elders teach that which HAS been taught

Jay Guin want to IMPOSE instruments in the "school of Christ" when Scripture and all historic scholarship proves that it is connected to Lucifer as the source, People raising panic and threatening sodomy by vocal and instgrumental PRAISE. It is connected to animal sacrifices which God DID NOT COMMAND. It was connected around all pagan temples or "worship centers" with male and female prostitutes.
And he thinks that Circumcision which was a NATIONAL identifier but NOT connected to the human spirit gives him authority to IMPOSE that which Christ outlawed.

The Qahal, synagogue or Church in the wilderness quarantined the goodly SECTOR outside the gates and as the loud noise (not music) profaned the Sabbath, the godly civilians were limited to their quarters where they could hold synagogue.

It was INCLUSIVE of Rest (from rituals), Reading and Rehearsing the Word.

http://www.piney.com/DSSPsa41.html

Those promoting instruments rely WHOLLY on the curse of the sacrificial system especially Hezekiah's plague stopping slaughter with the MILITARY instruments. All recorded history knows that music has a way of "creating spiritual anxiety through religious rituals." This was the laded burden Jesus peeled off our backs along with the burden laders. In both Hebrew and Greek a "burden" is a style of singing which creates "mental excitement" which Paul outlaws with the SELF-pleasure in Romans 15 pointing to all of the performing or hypocritic arts.

By definition, the unlawful tithes and offerings and most of the spiritual energy will be used up rehearsing and performing a "spectacle of worship" which is defined as a lying wonder of those God has sent delusions. NEXT VERSE: The context is always ignored:

Second, as Paul argues, requiring circumcision as a requirement to be saved (or stay saved!) contradicts the “truth of the gospel.”

Not true: the Jews said that you had to be circumcised and keep the law to be RIGHTEOUS. Being righteous meant that you could ask to be baptized.  Jay Quin knows of no Church of Christ which asks about circumcison which to the elementary mind has nothing to do with the weekly School of the Word.
(Galatians 2:11-14 ESV)

Jay Guin:  11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, "If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?"
Notice what happened in Antioch. Cephas (the apostle Peter) refused to eat with the uncircumcised Gentile Christians “fearing the circumcision party.” To get along with brothers who had scruples, Peter broke fellowship with fellow Christians! There are things we can and should do to submit to brothers with scruples, as Paul teaches in Rom 14, but breaking fellowship with fellow Christians is not one of them!

Good for Jay: if someone wants to IMPOSE circumcision on you just SAY NO.
If Jay wants to impose MUSIC on you just say no. Polite society tared and feathered professional performers.

"Philodemus takes offense at the fact that, in cultic music, the inner sentiment is lacking while this so-called worship is offered to the gods only for payment.

"Philo, too, stressed the necessity of religious inwardness in preference to the cult of sacrifice:"God has no joy in sacrifices, my dear sir, even if one should offer him hecatombs, for everything belongs to him.

Celsus said that it was well known that "music pertained only to the lowest gods, the demo ns,and that the highest divine being had no NEED of melodies and sounds. And again, Philo claimed that:

"One cannot truly offer thanks to God as the vast majority of men do, with external effects, consecrated gifts and sacrifices..., but rather with songs of praise and hymns - not such as the audible voice sings, but such as are raised and re-echoed by the invisible mind. (Philo, De Plantations 126 (II 148 Cohn-Wendland) Quoted by (Quasten, p. 5)
THE SECTARIAN CULTS JAY WANTS TO AUTHORIZE WHEN PAUL OUTLAWED THEM

Dionysus had the power to inspire and to create ecstasy, and his cult had special importance for art and literature. Performances of tragedy and comedy in Athens were part of two festivals of Dionysus, the Lenaea and the Great (or City) Dionysia. He was also honoured in lyric poems called dithyrambs. In Roman literature his nature is often misunderstood, and he is simplistically portrayed as the jolly Bacchus who is invoked at drinking parties. In 186 bce the celebration of Bacchanalia was prohibited in Italy.

Dionysus (also spelled Dionysos) is the Greek God of ritual dance and sacred mysticism, of death and new life. He can be gentle or provoke the wildness within us all, literally able to drive both his followers and his enemies mad. Euripedes called him 'most gentle and most terrible'. Dionysus is the patron of poetry, the song, and drama, and of course wine and its intoxication effects. He was credited with the invention of wine making and its use on Earth and this became almost his chief attribute in his Roman form - Bacchus. Unlike Pan for instance, Dionysus is counted as one of the twelve major Gods of Mount Olympus.

"The older Dionysian festivities were ecstatic affairs; worshippers often overcome with ecstasy and religious fervor. They formed thyasi (holy bands) and waved thyrsoi (fennel wands bound with vine leaves and tipped with ivy). Dancing by torchlight to the rhythm of the flute and the tympanon (kettledrum),

while they were under the god's inspiration, the bacchantes were believed to possess occult powers, the ability to charm snakes and suckle animals, as well as preternatural strength that enabled them to tear living victims to pieces before indulging in a ritual feast (omophagia).

The main feature of his worship was called sparagmos: the tearing apart of a live animal, the eating of its flesh, and the drinking of its blood.

Believers considered they were partaking of the God's body and blood.

Pythagoreans Britannica Members

"The Orphic creeds were the basis of the Pythagorean brotherhood, which flourished in southern Italy beginning in the 6th century BC. The Pythagoreans were aristocratic fraternities that sometimes had a political scope. Their main achievements, however, lay in the fields of music, geometry, and astronomy. They discovered that these subjects could be explained by numbers and ratios.

Combining Orphic eschatology (the study of the last things, especially death and afterlife) with their discoveries, they invested music, geometry, and astronomy with religious values.

"According to their doctrine, the original home of the soul was in the stars. From there it fell down to earth and associated with the body.

"Thus, man was a stranger on the earth, and he had to strive to liberate himself from the ties of the flesh and return to the soul's celestial home.

What we do know is that the Synagogue outlawed "vocal or instrumental rejoicing." The Latin calls the synagogue an ACADEMY which was the opposite to the Academy of the Cynics or the old style praise howlers: Dogs

No synagogue ever had any form of "music" and "singing" was called cantillation used to make the inspired word understandable to everyone.  None of the congregations used singing as in "let her rock and roll" which is one of the "F" words.  You could attend any congregation and not have to worry about mussic.  So, trying to compare what the  priest did to your foreskin with a piece of dull flint as a PATTERNISM to authorize instruments is not something Jay learned from Perry Mason.

Jay Guin: Indeed, Paul declared Peter’s refusal to fellowship the Gentiles as “not in step with the truth of the gospel,” and he says Peter “stood condemned” for this sin! Peter, the Rock, leader of the apostles, stood condemned because he drew the lines of fellowship too narrowly — so he could get along with brothers with scruples. Think about that one long and hard.

Psalm 41 prophesied that Judaswould try to IMPOSE musical performance on Jesus: Jesus called the MEN of that generation CHILDREN (gay troubadors): He consigned the pipers who wanted to INITIATE new members to singing or lamenting and dancing while being INITIATED to the marketplace.

Did someone suggest there is safety in withdrawing from those who don’t honor our scruples? That we should break fellowship just to be sure of our salvation? It doesn’t work that way! Indeed, the fact that we see condemnable conduct as a path to safety demonstrates how very far removed our thinking can be from the truth of the gospel.

THOSE WHO IMPOSED INSTRUMENTS IN THE DISCIPLES / CHRISTIAN CHURCHES BROKE FELLOWSHIP.

Churches of Christ had no organized fellowship with the Disciples other than a few preachers shaking hands and wanting to do joint projects. Alexander Campbell joked about their being "unity" with those he began to oppose over organization and premillennielism.

The Church of Christ under that name never in recorded history engaged in singing with instrumental accompaniment: most of the Disciples opposed the forced introduction.

Because there was no fellowship in a participating sence since about 1849, it is FALSE to say that they broke fellowship with those who broke fellowship among themselves when the organ (only) was imposed.

Jay Guin: But why didn’t Paul just have Titus circumcised — making peace in the brotherhood — and yet teach the truth of the matter? Why wouldn’t it have been enough to teach the truth of the freedom the gospel grants while submitting to the scruples of the legalists just to get along? Well, because freedom that can’t be exercised isn’t freedom.
(Galatians 2:16 ESV)

6 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
Why didn't the Disciples tolerate instruments instead of secting out over instruments. Maybe it is because there is no connection between friendly fellowship and the SCHOOL OF THE WORD.

The use of instruments was IMPOSED because it was part of the curse of animal sacrifices which needed exorcism noises to "make the lambs dumb before the slaughter."

Jay's friends use the Burnt Offering of GOATS for Israel (trying to restore fellowshi) wiith the military Levites making NOISE: Christ in the prophets said that sacrifices and BURNT OFFERINGS were not commanded.

Therefore, imposing instruments is THE meaning of legalism. Furthermore, it if was BY FAITH then Jay could find Jesus commanding instruments. Therefore, he has no FAITH to rest on.  The CENI is Jesus's command that the Apostles "teach what HE commanded to be taught." Because He did not command instruments, then it is NOT by faith, and Jay Guin is teaching people to VIOLATE the direct commands of Jesus Christ.

Faith justifies, and works do not. If we submit to those who teach a works-based gospel, we affirm their teaching, and that contradicts “the truth of the gospel.” It’s not an option.

"JUSTIFIED" does not mean SAVED. We are justified by The Faith of Jesus Christ if we fear God and work righteous deeds. That qualifies one to be baptized where we are SAVED.

Some want to narrow “works of the law” to the Law of Moses. We don’t need to cover that question because, regardless of the meaning of “law,” we know what “faith” means. And Paul’s point is not so much that “law” is bad as “faith” is sufficient. The important thing, then, is the definition of “faith.”

THAT'S TRUE: MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS ARE MACHINES FOR DOING HARD WORK MOSTLY IN WAR.

Well, is it not in connection with idolatry, above all, that you have the devil with his pomp and his angels? from which, to speak. briefly-for I do not wish to dilate-you have every unclean and wicked spirit.

If, therefore, it shall be made plain that the entire apparatus of the shows is based upon idolatry, beyond all doubt that will carry with it the conclusion that our renunciatory testimony in the laver of baptism has reference to the shows, See the Story of Genun (Jubal). And Enoch.

Strabo Geography 10.3.16

Of the rites of Dionysus condemned by Paul in First Corinthians and the wine drinking musical worship in Ephesus:

Also resembling these rites are the Cotytian and the Bendideian rites practiced among the Thracians, among whom the Orphic rites had their beginning. Now the Cotys who is worshipped among the Edonians, and also the instruments used in her rites, are mentioned by Aeschylus; for he says,

O adorable Cotys among the Edonians, and ye who hold mountain-ranging instruments;

And he mentions immediately afterwards the attendants of Dionysus: one, holding in his hands the bombyces (reed flute),

toilsome work of the turner's chisel, fills full the fingered melody, the call that brings on frenzy, while another causes to resound the bronze-bound cotylae. (cupped cymbals or vases) "and again, stringed instruments raise their shrill cry, and frightful mimickers from some place unseen bellow like bulls, and the semblance of drums, as of subterranean thunder, rolls along, a terrifying sound.

Note:In connection with this bold use of "semblance" (eikôn) by Aeschylus, note Strabo's studied use of "resembles" (eoike, twice in this paragraph) and "unlikely" (apeikos). Others either translate eikôn "echo," or omit the thought.

The sounding brass (echoing) in First Corinthians thirteen was a Greek military instrument or hollow vase. It is directly related to the Chaldean which is a synonymn for astrologer. It was used like the familiar spirit or "old wineskin" of the witch of Endor to call up a ghost from the subterranean world. By whispering and murmuring into the skin the client heard mysterous sounds which were interpreted as from the gods. At the same time, it was used as a musical instrument or weapon to try to panic the enmy with the noise.

Charles Spurgeon Psalm 149 Ver. 3. Let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. They who from hence urge the use of music in religious worship, must, by the same rule, introduce dancing, for they went together, as in David's dancing before the ark (Jud 21:21). But whereas many Scriptures in the New Testament keep up singing as a gospel ordinance, none provide for the keeping up of music and dancing; the gospel canon for Psalmody is to "sing with the spirit and with the understanding." --Matthew Henry.

And this passage tells us. It’s believing “in Jesus Christ.” The faith Paul preaches is not a systematic theology. It’s what we confess just before we’re baptized. The faith of a 12-year old coming to Jesus, confessed in a sentence, is enough. You don’t have to take two semesters of hermeneutics or church history to have faith.

See Galatians 5 where Paul defined any of the hypocritics arts and crafts as witchcraft.

Paul declares circumcision for the sake of fellowship or salvation to be a “yoke of slavery.” Indeed,

Yes, a Christian can fall from grace. One way to do it is to defeat the gospel by insisting on salvation by some means other than faith in Jesus.

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Jer 7:24

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day, I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: Jer 7:25

There is no compromise with legalism allowed. If we teach or practice a circumcision as a test of fellowship, as a mark of the church, or as a salvation issue, we are required to “keep the whole law.” It’s not because circumcision is part of the Law of Moses. Circumcision was actually part of God’s covenant with Abraham, made centuries earlier. It’s because circumcision is not faith.

If you mutilate the Scriptures and say that God commanded YOU "to do instrumental praise" and use the sacrificial system to which God ABANDONED Israel because of musical idolatry then you HAVE fallen from Grace,

If you want to be saved by faith in Jesus, you must recognize the sufficiency of faith in Jesus. (Paul does not, of course, teach license. Those with a genuine faith will seek to do God’s will and won’t live in rebellion, as Paul explains in Galatians 2:17-21 and 5:16-26.)

(I get so upset when an author declares that we might fall from grace by worshiping with an instrument, and then cites Galatians 5:4 as authority — when Galatians 5:4 teaches the opposite! We can fall from grace by basing salvation and fellowship on something other than faith in Jesus and love for others.)
(Galatians 5:5-6 ESV)

5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
How could Paul speak more plainly? Hope comes “by faith.” The only thing that “counts for anything” is “faith working through love.”

If we take Paul at his word here at the culmination of his epistle, the reason circumcision can’t be a test of fellowship or a salvation issue or even something that “counts for anything” is that it’s neither faith nor love. Obviously, people of faith and love can be circumcised (or sing exclusively a cappella), but they can’t insist that faith is inadequate unless combined with exclusively a cappella music.

No one associates "ACappella music" with salvation. Singing is PURPOSE DRIVEN to teach the inspired word of God. We don't care if you "go all the way" and emasculate yourself: you will not be asked to do show and tell.

THERE WAS A BIGGER PROBLEM WHEN THE DOGS AND CONCISION HOWLED TOGETHER

Noting that in the Greek world musicians even after people got wise and shut down the sacrificial altars were still called PARASITES because they didn't want to work for a living.

There are some, however, who suppose there is likewise, the subject-race of a tricky nature, artful, and assuming all shapes, turning many ways, that personates gods and dæmons and souls of the dead like actors on the stage; and that through these everything that seems to be good or bad is possible. They are led to form this judgment because these subject-spirits are not able to contribute anything really beneficial as relates to the soul, nor even to perceive such things; but on the other hand, they ill treat, deride, and often impede those who are returning to virtue.

They are likewise full of conceit, and take delight in vapors and sacrifices.

5. Because the begging priest with open mouth attempts in many ways to raise our expectations. 13

13. The agurtes or begging priest generally belonged to the worship of Rhea or Cybele, the Mother [Zoe]. He is frequently depicted in a most unfavorable light. Apuleius speaks of a company of these emasculate priests in the eighth book of the Metamorphoses. They are also described in the Republic of Plato: "Agurtæ and Mantics frequent the houses of the rich and persuade them that they possess a power granted by the gods to expiate,

by sacrifices and chants any unjust act that has been committed and that they induce the gods by blandishments and magic rites to help them.

They collected money in this way, and they also followed the selling of nostrums and telling of fortunes."

Gal 5:12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
Anastatoo (g387) an-as-tat-o'-o; from a der. of 450 (in the sense of removal); prop. to drive out of home (Psallo has the same meaning), i.e. (by impl.) to disturb (lit. or fig.): - trouble, turn upside down, make an uproar, to stir up, excite, unsettle to excite tumults and seditions in the state to upset, unsettle, minds by disseminating religious error
HERE IS THE WAY TO CRUCIFY JESUS CHRIST Again: ANASTATOO (387) drive out, make an uproar, unsettle people, disseminating religious error

The Cross means to STOP this:

G388 anastauroo an-as-tow-ro'-o From G303 and G4717 ; to recrucify (figuratively):--crucify afresh.

The Cross means:
figuratively to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness:

Why are YOU so anxious to agitate and LIGHT THE FIRES which Jesus died to wash away?

HERE IS THE PRACTICE AND THE PEOPLE DEFINED AS AGITATORS:

> Lucian 50 - And on set days the multitude assembles in the sanctuary, and many Galloi (emasculated) and the religious men that I spoke of perform their ceremonies; and they cut their own arms and beat one another on the back.

And many stand there playing flutes and beating timbrels, and others sing inspired and holy songs.
This is done outside the temple,
and they who perform it do not come into the temple.

> Lucian In some places in Egypt, for the song of Linus or Osiris,
a peculiar melody seems to have been used. Savary says that, in the
temple of Abydos,
"the priest repeated the seven vowels in the form of hymns,
and that musicians were forbid to enter it."

51 - And on these days Galloi are made. For while the rest are playing flutes and performing their rites, frenzy soon enters into many

Her hymned the old and learned bards of Greece....

The Galli, the emasculate, since thus

bangings of their hands;
The fierce

The tubed pipe excites their maddened minds
In Phrygian measures; they bear before them knives,
Wild emblems of their frenzy, which have power
The rabble's ingrate heads and impious hearts
To panic with terror of the goddess' might.

Apollo Aeschylus, Eumenides (ed. Herbert Weir Smyth, Ph. D.)

Aesch. Eum. 174Chorus

And he
brings distress to me too, but he shall not win his release; even if he escapes beneath the earth, he is never set free. [175] A suppliant, he will acquire another avenger from his family.
Note 1: 1 As Agamemnon was slain by Clytaemestra and Clytaemestra by Orestes, so Orestes shall be slain by one of his own race. miastôris properly "polluter."

Miastôr 1 [miainô] I. a wretch stained with crime, a guilty wretch, a pollution, Lat. homo piacularis, Trag.

The painting of Orestes is the UNIVERSAL meaning of musical warfare.

[178] Out, I order you! Go away from this house at once, leave my prophetic sanctuary, [180] so that you may not be struck by a winged glistening snake Note 1 shot forth from a golden bow-string, and painfully release black foam, vomiting the clots of blood you have drained from mortals. [185]

It is not right for you to approach this house; no, your place is where the punishments are beheading, gouging out of eyes, cutting of throats, and where young men's virility is ruined by destruction of seed; where there is mutilation and stoning, and where those who are impaled beneath their spine moan long and piteously. [190]

Do you hear what sort of feast is your delight? You are detested by the gods for it. The whole fashion of your form sets it forth. Creatures like you should live in the den of a blood-drinking lion, and not inflict pollution on all near you in this oracular shrine. [195] Be gone, you goats without a herdsman! No god loves such a flock.

Enters from the inner sanctuary.

Note 1 The arrow sped from Apollo's gold-wrought string is called a "winged glistening snake" because it stings like a serpent's bite. There is also a latent word-play: ophis "snake" suggests ios "snake's poison" which also means "arrow."

ophis a serpent, snake, Il., Hdt., Trag.:--metaph., ptênon ophin, of an arrow, Aesch. [The first syll. is sometimes made long, when it was pronounced (and perh. ought to be written) opphis, v. ocheô.]

Paul makes clear what he means by “love” —
(Galatians 5:13-14 ESV)
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Freedom means that I am free from YOU or any clergy intending to use, abuse and fleece me? You are free to do anything you wish.  You do not have the freedom to INVADE or infiltrate MY church and turn it into a theater for holy entertainment as in ROCK AND ROLL.
How can you love someone when you teach people how they can sow discord in their own congregations?

Gal. 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest,
which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal. 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal. 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

But it is only poets whom you have thought proper to allow to invent unseemly tales about the gods, and to turn them shamefully into sport?

What do your pantomimists, the actors, that crowd of mimics and adulterers?

not abuse your gods to make to themselves gain,
and do not the others find enticing pleasures in the wrongs and insults offered to the gods?
At the public games, too, the colleges of all the priests and magistrates take their places, the chief Pontiffs, and the chief priests of the curiae; the Quindecemviri take their places, crownedwith wreaths of laurel ,

who disclose the divine mind and will
                and the chaste maidens also, who cherish and guard the ever-burning fire;
the whole people and the senate take their places; the fathers who have done service as consuls, princes next to the gods, and most worthy of reverence; and, shameful to say, Venus, the mother of the race of Mars, and parent of the imperial people, is represented by gestures as in love, and is delineated with shameless mimicry

“Faith working through love” is all about believing in Jesus in such a way that we are led to truly love our neighbors. True faith works — through love. Faith serves because faith loves.

And here we find the mission of God in a phrase. God saved us, through faith, so that we could be added to his Kingdom and join with him in serving the world in love. That’s God’s mission, and those are what matter. Nothing else “counts for anything.”

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:
and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people.
And the Lord added to the church daily such as were being saved

Baptism is to SHOW HOW we are saved by Grace Through Faith:

Or as Paul writes,

(Galatians 6:14-15 ESV)
14 But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.
To those with eyes and ears, instrumental music was outlawed for the synagogue and that never changed. Legalists need a law to tell them not to do "rock and role" when Jesus comes to be our only Teacher when we teach that which has been taught.

Circumcision doesn’t count for anything. Neither does uncircumcision. What matters is “a new creation,” that is, being transformed to be like Jesus. And that’s what matters — because Jesus showed us how to love our neighbors by how he lived. Living like Jesus, therefore, is the true mark of a Christian (someone who is Christ-like!).

Rom. 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
In Galatians, therefore, Paul shows us a better hermeneutic. Rather than picking apart the many biblical passages about circumcision and debating endlessly whether it’s still a command, Paul tells us to ask: Is it about faith in Jesus? Is it about love for our neighbor? Is it about being transformed to be like Jesus?

Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven,
            and will give unto thy seed all these countries;
            and in thy seed [singular] shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge,
my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

1Co.7:19 7 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing
but the keeping of the commandment

.
Ga.5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision;

but faith which worketh by love.
Ga.6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision,

but a new creature.

Ja. 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works,
when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Ja. 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works,
and by works was faith made perfect?
Ja.2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith,
        Abraham believed God,
and it was imputed unto him for righteousness:
and he was called the Friend of God.

Peter understood and discipled Jews who WALKED by the same rule. Gentiles were accepted on the same basis:

But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness,
              is accepted with him. Ac.10:35

Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
Rom 2:7 To them who by patient
continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:

Heb.11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Rom 2:8 But unto them that are contentious,
and do not obey the truth,
 but obey unrighteousness,
 indignation and wrath,

Ro.10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
Ro. 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2 Thess 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

2 Thess 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

And if we sing, without or without a drum kit, in praise of Jesus, Lord of the Universe and Son of God, it’s about faith in Jesus. And if we sing, with or without a guitar, to edify our brothers and sisters in the faith and to draw an unbelieving visitor to his knees so that he’ll declare,

See Clement from Tom Burgess

For if people occupy their time with pipes, and psalteries, and choirs, and dances, and Egyptian clapping of hands, and such disorderly frivolities,

they become quite immodest and intractable, beat on cymbals and drums, and make a noise on instruments of delusion ; for plainly such a banquet, as seems to me,

is a theatre of drunkenness. For the apostle decrees that, "putting off the works of darkness, we should put on the armour of light, walking honestly as in the day, not spending our time in rioting and drunkenness, in chambering and wantonness."

Let the pipe be resigned to the shepherds, and the flute to the superstitious who are engrossed in idolatry. For, in truth, such instruments are to be banished from the temperate banquet, being more suitable to beasts than men, and the more irrational portion of mankind.

Chalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; a prim. root [comp. 2470]; prop. to bore, i. e. (by impl.) to wound, to dissolve; fig. to profane (a person, place or thing), to break (one's word), to begin (as if by an "opening wedge"); denom. (from 2485) to play (the flute): - begin (* men began), defile, * break, defile, * eat (as common things), * first, * gather the grape thereof, * take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound

For we have heard of stags being charmed by the pipe, and seduced by music into the toils, when hunted by the huntsmen.

And when mares are being covered, a tune is played on the flute -a nuptial song,l, as it were.

And every improper sight and sound, to speak in a word, and every shameful sensation of licentiousnes"-which, in truth, is privation of sensation-must by all means be excluded;

and we must be on our guard against whatever pleasure titillates eye and ear, and effeminates. For the various spells of the broken strains and plaintive numbers of the Carian muse corrupt men's morals, drawing to perturbation of mind, by the licentious and mischievous art of music.

Paull commanded that we use onemind and one mouth to speak "that which is written for our learning" as the only way to EDIFY.  Edification means education here: you cannot educate the spirit or mind when beating on drums of delusion.

“God is really among you!” (1 Corinthians 14:25 ESV), then it’s also about love. And if our singing helps us draw closer to Jesus, to become more like him, by elevating our thoughts and feelings, instructing and admonishing one another with gratitude, then it’s about being transformed — even if there’s a piano playing while it happens.

You see, the very notion that whether the instruments are right or wrong might depend on silences or the writings of Clement of Alexandria utterly misunderstands the nature of the gospel. The gospel is simply not about such things.

Eat Esthio That would EXCLUDE those identified by diet in Romans 14 if they brought their "doubtful disputations" into the assembly.

Everyone preached the Gospel of the KINGDOM: only those saved at baptism are added to the Church, the Kingdom of God.  The Gospel includes how to conduct ourselves in the Kingdom which is The School of God through His Word.  The GOOD NEWS is that Jesus casts out the laded burdens and the burden laders: Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites identified by Jesus as slick speakers, singers and instrument players.

But, Scripture is NOT Silent.  It's just the fact that when you think so God sends you strong delusions so that you cannot read black text on brown paper.

And freedom isn’t freedom if we can’t exercise it. If concerns for fellowship and “unity” make it impossible to ever actually exercise our freedom, then we contradict Paul’s decision regarding Titus. Rather, we submit to those who would “bring us into slavery.” That’s not unity. Rather, that’s returning to Egypt.

Returning to Egypt is what the Israelites did when they rose up to PLAY in musical idolatry.
In Exodus 31 Moses outlawed profaning the Sabbath: the word Chalal means to "play the flute, steal other people's property, pollute or prostitue.

In Exodus 32 the people VIOLATED that direct command,
engaged in musical idolatry and God abandoned them to worship the starry host.   They were sent from Egypt back to Babylon.

Freedom in Christ is freedom FROM whatever might be imposed based on human imagination.

The "gospel" of Jesus had as its core the freedom of believers from being these religious "pack animals" or "cargo ships." Jesus spoke one essential of the gospel when He that the agents or mediators were fired:

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Matthew 11:27
Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:29

The burden Jesus removed was:
