The Names of Jesus

Is Scripture confused about the names of Jesus? People call me many things: Son, father, brother, farmer, demonic, bright but wrong, Satan-sifted or you fill in the blank___________________. But I just have one name. The same is true of Jesus so It is hard to get excited about doing a "bird walk" on a subject which is covered very well on the web. I would just add a few free words:

Isaiah prophesied of the composite nature of the One God:

For unto us a child (seed) is born,

unto us a son is given:

Now, that is not two "people"-

and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God (El), The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.  Isaiah 9:7->

King

Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Isaiah 44:6

Wonderful Counselor

Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him? Isaiah 40:13
---For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1 Timothy 2:5

The Son is

Mighty God

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:8

Ever-
lasting
Father

Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O Lord, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting. Isaiah 63:16
---Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. Revelation 1:12

Prince of
Peace

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Acts 5:31

Jesus knew that there was some confusion so for the Great Commission He said:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name (singular) of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:19

The name is singular because, from our human perspective, the name of the Father was Jesus; the name of the Son was Jesus; and the name of the Holy Spirit was Jesus. Father is not a name and Holy is not the first name of a God Person named Holy Spirit. Because Jesus is the Spirit-Anointed Messiah Paul defined what Jesus said by the use of the singular name:

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

This is why it is so important not to use a generic name for "god" because the family of god could mean a para-military group out to murder the opposition. "god" was also applied to the pagan gods and "god" is not a name of Full Deity.

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. Acts 4:10

This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Acts 4:11

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
