David Faust

David Faust presented the instrumental music position at Freed Hardeman University. Ralph Gilmore spoke for Freed Hardeman University but only David Faust's position has been actively promoted.  Wondering why FHU has invited pro-instrumentalists waving the "unity" flag, and why they, playing dumb, refused to refute David's 100% lying about the Bible and church history, we noted that:
Dye departed and started the Hendersonville Community Church. The Cultic crew recently had instrumental music as a part of their worship circus. Ken Dye is now at West End Church in Nashville, where Jim Bill McInteer preached for many years. Dye is scheduled to be at the Campbell Street Church in Jackson, Tenn, where he will hold a, "Home Inspection Series."

Ralph Gilmore, professor at Freed-Hardeman University is the preacher at Campbell Street Church. This is but another incident where, "Birds of a feather flock together." A fellow must be some more kind of liberal in order to be too rancid for the Hendersonville Church. For one to start one's own Community Church is dumbfounding. How much does a faculty member at F.H.U. need to know in order to pow-wow with liberal, cultic characters? Do you wonder why? I have no $$$ for Freed-Hardeman University, especially when one of its Bible (?) teachers is so weak, compromising, soft-soaping, as to pow-wow with an erst-while Community Church papa. Campbell Street must have a crew of children for its shepherds. Shame, shame! STOP  for the story line, its beginning and the players.

David's false teachings have shown up by Mark Henderson at Quail Springs.  The NACC is on a role: maybe half a dozen duped.

We believe that any fair look at the context and story line will prove that David has grasped at proof texts.  This section of my review of his lecture will concern itself primarily with the Temple Dedication animal sacrifice.  The whole story will show that instruments were used ONLY after moving the Ark from the Tabernacle God had promised (Acts 7) at Zion up to Jerusalem and the Like the Nation's HOUSE which Solomon built instead. God used this as a visual aid: First, the kabod or glory proves that they CAN NO LONGER reach the Mercy Seat and the WORD in the ark.  Not to worry: the people's congregation are outside the gates, they pray to God without a priest to mediate and God answers directly from heaven.  Finally, Solomon concludes that God DOES NOT live in a house.
ALL of the "musical" episodes in the Bible bring about the loss of the Word or the loss of the Word is MARKED by music. I have read a number of 'apologies' for the use of instruments: Burgess, Knowles, Johnson, Dunning and Winder and they all prove the LOSS of the whole Word which is the only way to justify the massive sectarian movement caused by "music."
The occasion for David Faust's same line was something like a blood lust to REUNITE two very diverse groups which were never UNITED.  Thomas Campbell landed in America with a document defining what the CHURCH OF CHRIST should be.  Like Jesus and Paul and all early church history, he promoted CHURCH as "a school of Christ" and WORSHIP as "reading and musing the Word of God." That is what Paul defined in Romans 15 while excluding self-pleasing which points to singing, music and the scenic arts.  He included speaking with one mind and one mouth, using "that which is written" which would glorify God who wrote the songs and sermons, comfort one another with Scripture and KEEP THE UNITY.  That didn't change for almost 400 years when singing was added to the collective assembly to introduce non-Biblical texts in meter.

The Stone movement was impulsed by Cane Ridge, bourbon county, Kentucky.  This was a later "awakening" which fed off the earlier awakening which fed off witchcraft and Whitefield theatrics.  A pre-Saddam Iraq sect of 'christians' worshipped the devil and it sounds identical to Cane Ridge.

The Reformers or churches of Christ were never part of the Disciples denomination and did nothing but refuse to be counted by the denomination in 1906.  The "Christian church" continued to be Disciples until they broke the unity in 1926.

The only UNION consisted of some churches meeting in the same building under the sole umbrella of "unity" but that was destroyed by the forced introduction of the Organ.

Therefore, there is no broken unity to restore and the ruse is no more valid than to try to restore churches of Christ to the "mother" Presbyterian or Baptist churches.

The "UNION" impulse is built on the tree model: all branches are somewhat connected to the same tree. However, the gospel is a leaven or spore model.  If you plant and water a spore it will not become a stagnant tree. Rather, the mushroom will burst at the seams and all of the little spores will "go into all the world" and grow more mushrooms. Does anyone have the time and energy to "fellowship" other congregations? No. So, where comes the UNITY impulse? My thesis which is discovered with no effort is that the MUSICAL churches have a rejecton sore spot which cannot be healed unless they use mighty force and even deception to make others identical to them.  The Book of Enoch and three dozen similar commentaries on the pre-flood history has this story line:
Doubt that? Well, it happened in the garden of Eden, at Mount Sinai and when the elders "fired" God and had a King Set Over us. God knew that it was to be able to "worship like the nations." After solemnly warning them of a fall beyond redemption God gave them a king. One of the warnings was that the young men would be made into musical warriors to run before the chariots.  Paul issues the same fall from grace warning in Romans 1.

Therefore, the period of the Monarchy was devoted to Sabazianism or Dionysus and Zeus worship in its early forms which came out of Egypt with them.  The MUSIC and SEXUALITY is a universal symboitic marriage.

Iamblichus wrote Of the Hebrew Kadeshim and the Eleusinian. Thus "Bacchus was directly called upon," he says. The Sabazian worship was Sabbatic; the names Evius, or Hevius, and Luaios are identical with Hivite and Levite. The French name Louis is the Hebrew Levi; Iacchus again is Iao or Jehovah; and Baal or Adon, like Bacchus, was a phallic god. "Who shall ascend into the hill (the high place) of the Lord?" asks the holy king David, "who shall stand in the place of his Kadushu [[Heb char]]"? (Psalms xxiv. 3). Kadesh may mean in one sense to devote, hallow, sanctify, and even to initiate or to set apart; but it also means the ministers of lascivious rites (the Venus-worship) and the true interpretation of the word Kadesh is bluntly rendered in Deuteronomy xxiii. 17; Hosea iv. 14; and Genesis xxxviii., from verses 15 to 22. The "holy" Kadeshuth of the Bible were identical as to the duties of their office with the Nautch-girls of the later Hindu pagodas.

Deut 23:17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

Deut 23:18 Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

Hos 4:14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.

The Hebrew Kadeshim or galli lived "by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the grove," or bust of Venus-Astarte, says verse the seventh in the twenty-third chapter of 2 Kings.

The dance performed by David round the ark was the "circle-dance" said to have been prescribed by the Amazons for the Mysteries. Such was the dance of the daughters of Shiloh (Judges xxi. 21, 23 et passim), and the leaping of the prophets of Baal (I Kings xviii. 26). It was simply a characteristic of the Sabean worship, for it denoted the motion of the planets round the sun.

That the dance was a Bacchic frenzy is apparent. Sistra were used on the occasion, and the taunt of Michael and the king's reply are very expressive. "The king of Israel uncovered himself before his maid-servants as one of the vain (or debauched) fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself." And he retorts: "I will play (act wantonly) before [[Heb char]], and I will be yet more vile than this, and I will be base in my own sight."

Now why you should not listen to "experts" prowling the churches of Christ seeking whom they may devour because not a single proof text understands the context or the story line.  Therefore, do NOT let them do brain surgery on you at "workshops."

What no instrumentalist knows or chooses to reveal while trying to create UNITY by having YOU become just like them: fallen into associating music with the Spirit from which they can never recover.

The Bible is a running history of the Israelite people; to try to leap into it at a given point to prove a preconception is as dangerous as it is difficult to refute.  If I told you that God commanded you to build me a Tabernacle you would be intentionally confused. Yet, some would go out and build a Tabernacle.  Or an Ark?  Without batting an eye someone can look at one of David's poems--and poems tend to be poetic--and be so dogmatically certain that they should organize a Levitical Musical Guild knowing that they would drive you out of your church family and destroy relationships.

Now, that I have that off my chest, I want to tell you about a band of men who manage to get on the lecture circuit of all of the once-Christian colleges to deliberately subvert those who know the music heresy into their camp.

David Faust: I . In the Old Testament the Lord didn't merely "permit" the use of musical instruments as aids to worship. He commanded their use.

David's harp, Asaph's cymbals, and Benaiah's trumpet were not the focus of worship, the Lord was; but His servants used these tools to praise Him. Second Chronicles 5:13 is especially noteworthy, for it says, 'The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voice in praise to the Lord and sang: 'He is good; His love endures forever' "' For those of us who believe it's permissible to use instruments in worship, this verse captures the sincere and unified praise we want to offer the Lord.

  1. But Solomon is moving the Ark of the Covenant from the Tabernacle God permitted David who never used instruments even outside the tent grounds.
  2. And moving it TO the HOUSE which Solomon built.
  3. The ritual was a visual aid of God removing His ready symbolic presence and His Word beyond reach where no human could go except one person once a year.
  4. But God DID NOT enter the Temple. Rather the people prayed outside without a mediator and God answered from HEAVEN.
  5. So we doubt that God was doing a song and dance INSIDE of the Temple.

We know of no example of David leading congregational singing: the closest was his naked dance with the girls while REMOVING the Ark of the Covenant to His new Tent whichGod permitted BUT David built Him a house.

The "congregation" at the Temple dedication consisted of the following to dedicate a Gentile-like temple at a Jebusite High Place where David's new Jubilant Praise which "changed the Law" was simply adopted because officialdom had been abandoned to worship the starry hosts.

2 Chr 5:2 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel,
        and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem,
        to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.

2 Chr 5:3 Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves
        unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month.

They moved the ARK from the Tabernacle God promised David but Solomon build Him a HOUSE. 
There was never any music before the Tabernacle and they moved OUT of Zion and up the Slope to a new spot.
Therefore, the Temple sacrificial noise making was not part of the PATTERNISM of the Tabernacle.

When the ark had been placed and the Priests came out

2 Chr 5:12 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren,
        being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps,
        stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)

Josephus will warn that the Levites caused the destruction of the nation.  Ezekiel's Idealized Temple agrees.

The effect of moving from the God permitted TENT to the Solomon built HOUSE in which God WOULD NOT be worshipped is that He cried
Treason, Treason!

The sound was to CALL ALOUD, bleating, crackling, cry, yell: not music.  Here is the NAME and SOUND.

The Shofar could NOT be altered after they were tuned to one sound..

And the praise was: H1984 hâlal be clear (originally of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence to make a show; to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave;also to stultify:--(make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool (-ish, -ly), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Eze.28:16

Of Babylon as a type of Lucifer:

Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms (maggots) cover thee. Is.14:11

Now, since David was convinced that he had God in a box, this was to "bring up the ark of the covenant" to merge with the Civil temple.  this had nothing to do with Sabbath worship of the people who were OUTSIDE the gates.

David Faust: 2. In the old Testament the Lord didn't merely "permit' the use of musical instruments as aids to worship. He blessed their use.
Second Chronicles 5:14 adds an important point about the dedication of the temple. After the instrumentalists and the singers joined together in united praise to the Lord, the next verse says, 
Before we launch into this one let us remember that God had abandoned Israel to worship the starry host. That is why God communicated with a lost David through Gad a STARGAZER.  If David saw the plans for the temple it was God showing him one patterned after that of Tyre where the "Lucifer" spirit ruled as the "singing and harp playing prostitute."  

This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: Acts 7:38

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, Acts 7:39

Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. Acts 7:40

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. Acts 7:41

Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven;

as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness? Acts 7:42

Stephen parallels Amos 5f who defines the MUSICAL IDOLATRY quite identical to that at Mount Sinai. Then disabusing any PRO machine worshipers depending on the temple.
The Tabernacle which God granted David was at ZION. 
..........The heavenly Zion is the place of the heavenly Tabernacle.
..........There were NO INSTRUMENTS at the Tabernacle at Zion.
..........Remember that Stephen made this so clear to the Jewish clergy that they murdered him.

Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. Acts 7:46

 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? Acts 7:49

So, I guess that it wasn't GOD in the temple. He was busy answering "lay" people's prayers from heaven.
Hiram built a temple covered over with many costly idols symbolic of the Dionysus worship. That inclued Jochin and Boaz which were HERMAE just ooozing fertility juices out of the business end. There are many other pagan idols.  For anyone missing OT 101 surely Acts 7 is part of the New Testament Church knowledge base
David Faust: "Then the temple of the Lord was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God" God's "glory" in the form of a cloud was an expression of God's joy, pleasure, approval, and delight.
The glory or Kabod does not meant that God is jumping for Joy. Being enthroned between the cherubim means that you are now OUTSIDE of the garden and you have lost contact with God.
Psa 99:1  The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble:
...................he sitteth between the cherubims;
...................let the earth be moved. [quake, tremble]
Psa 99:2  The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people.
People are in trouble when they see the Majesty of God REMOVED from access and see that as an expression of His joy, pleasure, approval and delight.
"As Jehovah was surrounded by figures of cherubim in His Sanctuary on earth, so He is, according to Scripture, surrounded in reality by cherubim in His Court above. David Faust: God was making known His presence in a very intense and powerfful way. The people not only honored the Lord as they played instruments and sang together, but they did so withh God's full and hearty approval. The Lord didn't just put up with the use of musical instruments; He smiled upon it, and expressed great delight and pleasure in the way His people praised Him through a combination of singing an instrumental accompaniment. Using my "desert island" principle, since I read this in my Old Testament, where I would find any evidence in the New Testament that God now frowns upon using musacal 'instruments as an aid to worship? it seems to me that there's a burden of proof on my non-instrumental friends to show where the New Testament plainly disallows something God so plainly and warmly blessed in the past.
The sound is bleating, crackling, cry, yell: not music.  This was not PRAISE SINGING as in congregational singing but this is the Warrior's Panic Praise outlawed for the church in the wilderness.

..........Remember that Stephen made this so clear to the Jewish clergy that they murdered him.

And all the elders of Israel came; and the Levites took up the ark. 2 Chr 5:4

And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, these did the priests and the Levites bring up. 2 Chr 5:5

Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude. 2 Chr 5:6

They brought the Ark into the Most Holy Place.  Remembering that God had turned them over to worship the starry host and God outlawed idols, we know that the ark was moved under the Cherubims.
2 Chr 5:7 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place,
to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims

For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. 2 Chr 5:8

And they drew out the staves of the ark, that the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the oracle; but they were not seen without. And there it is unto this day. 2 Chr 5:9

While God granted to the IDOLATRY OF NATIONHOOD such a temple, only ONE person ONCE a year was permitted to enter. The people's congregation NEVER were permitted to participate and were SYNAGOGUED in their own communities where "instruments and loud rejoicing" were outlawed. Because The Book of the Covenant with the Law had been hidden under the mercy seat but apparently lost, this radically removed the symbolic Word and mercy beyond their usual reach.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt. 2 Chr 5:10

And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: 2 Chr 5:11

NOTE that they CAME OUT of the Holy Place which was a CARNAL TYPE of the body or Church of Christ. The 100% SIGNAL to those with ears is that you DON'T use MUSICIANS in the church or Body of Christ.

You MUST remember that the COMMON PEOPLE were neither INVITED nor PERMITTED to participate in this CIVIL ceremony which was being repeated by the Canaanites, Babylonians and Egyptians.

So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory [heaviness] of the Lord had filled the house of God. 2 Chr 5:14

H3519 kabôd kaw-bode', kaw-bode' From H3513 ; properly weight; but only figuratively in a good sense, splendor or copiousness:-- glorious (-ly), glory, honour (-able).

H3513 Kabod kaw-bad, kaw-bade' A primitive root; to be heavy, that is, in a bad sense (burdensome, severe, dull

The Kabod or glory of God means that "You are not able to come into my presence."  When Israel rose up in musical idoaltry the people became STRANGERS.  Thereafter only the High Priest could come close to God once a year.  God is not getting sexually aroused as all pagan musical idolaters believed:

Because they had been abandoned to "worship the starry host" it is reasonable that God is represented in the forms of other nations: powerful and dangerous to approach.

The True House of Israel

Cherub Gen 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The cherubim were associated with the expulsion from the garden of Eden so that the Tree of Life was not accessable.

"The ark was in the holiest place of the tabernacle alone. However, the temple’s most holy place had the ark of the covenant, but also two giant cherubims made from olive wood and covered with gold."

And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high. And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits. And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size. The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub. And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house. Since Hiram had the "design" for the Temple, and the Ark of The Covenant as a mercy seat, we look to Hiram's Cherub Throne for TRUTH. The other is the Babylonian Prototype: God rides the Cherub

"These beasts guarded the mercy seat since they COVERED it with their wings.  Because God’s Word offers eternal life (John 6:63,68), and the fruit from the tree of life offered man eternal life, we can see a definite parallel. We know that Jesus’ truth was unrevealed during the period of time before He came."
After David sinned and made the Plague-Stopping animal sacrifice with singers but WITHOUT instruments, Zion became an alternative place for David's tabernacle because:

1 Chron 21:30 But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.

When the Ark was moved into the National Temple, the message was that the Word of God under the mercy seat was no longer available.

Since the Words of Christ are spirit and life (John 6:63), a baptized believer is given A holy spirit so that God and man can meet. The Cherubim were also associated with the flood of Noah

And when Christ died,

Mat 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
Mat 27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

That is why Paul said that believers can come BOLDLY before the Throne of Grace.

Solomon had a mental and moral lapse:

God remove access behind the veil: Only a baptized believer can now go boldly before the throne of grace BECAUSE Jesus ripped that BARRIER errected with loud noise.
